Wow. This is a great game all around, super well done and polished, but enough people will go into detail about how this game is, one of the best games I've played on this site ever.

I wish you good luck in the Newgrounds Halloween Competition! Had a feeling that perhaps me and my friends game could have won but you blew us completely out of the water lol

Jack responds:

hey, from one ohio developer to another, i hope you do well in the competition!

Has had obvious work put into it as the graphics and spectacle of the game is great! However, the gameplay is a bit too slow for its own good, in fact, what makes it more apparent is how fast you move when you double jump like it was added to supplement how slow you are. That would be fine but there is a lot of small platforms to jump from and when you double jump you can sometimes overshoot, most of the time it goes from fun jumping over enemies and blasting through areas to tedious platforming cause I need to walk slowly and only jump once to feel in control of my jump and moving slow isn't fun.

not great. It's not very clear where you can jump and where platforms end and begin so you kinda just jump around aimlessly and hope you land on something. And the fact that the beginning of the game makes you stand still just to get over an obstacle is a clear sign that this games design wasn't carefully thought out.

I Didn't complete the first level cause it was just frustrating and unintuitive.

I'm tempted to blam this, but truthfully I can tell there is at least some sort of effort put into this, it's just clear it's not in the game design or gameplay.

not great, The game actually softlocked for me since I guess I didn't get the golden key quick enough and the red mage wouldn't drop it again. I usually try and complete games before I give a review but this game doesn't really hold my interest enough for me to want to restart. It's fine for what it is, but not 3rd place of the day worthy in my opinion.

I commend you for making a Ludum dare game, since personally I hate game jams, and I hope you continue to make games and grow as a dev. from this experience :)

Although I've been making games for this website for around 4-5 years now, I'll be the first to admit I don't play many games on here. Sometimes there are a few gems on the frontpage but most games I play on here are mediocre at best (Unlike my games, all of my games are amazing and literally have 0 flaws).

But this game has been the first game in a long time to genuinely capture my imagination and be great. I know the game this is inspired off of has clunky controls, and you have managed to not only respect it but make small improvements to it as well.

I may be gushing a bit but I respect almost every aspect of this game and I feel like it's a great base for something far greater! I will be coming back to play this over and over again for a while.

If there is one thing I could say would be a nice addition, it would be to add a scoreboard since the games main goal is getting a highscore.

Thank you for the really nice review! I don't play a lot of games on here either. Being a developer can really limit the amount of freetime you can devote to just playing other people's games. Happy to hear you've found my game inspiring. Your review has made my day! :)

For a first published project this is very impressive, very cool!

I've read a few of the comments already and it seems like people mostly said what I was thinking in regards to feedback so I'll just be here to drop some words of encouragement. :)

TsucchiDev responds:

Thanks a lot for the encouragement! From a popular NG game developer such as yourself, this really made my day!! Cheers :D!!

Does your mom like it?

mmattugh responds:

I think so.

This game is pretty okay overall, I was originally going to be a lot more negative due to how awfully laid out the Default controls are but you can toggle them yourself so.. thank you.

Things I liked
- Short, sweet and fun; didn't overstay it's welcome and was difficult but no to an offensive degree.
-All the hand-drawn stuff looks really cool!
-Music was pretty good :)

Things I disliked
- Sound effects. Almost all of them were pretty shitty and usually didn't... "Feel" right especially with the music. The 8-bit sounds and non-8-bit music didn't mesh well.
- Some visuals look buttery smooth with nice lines while others are pixelated and nasty looking. Make it consistent.
- The platforming Physics were pretty bad, they never lead to any unfair deaths but it feels incomplete.

Game is pretty ugly to look at and the movement feels dodgy along with the physics.

The mechanics you manipulate don't feel as if they are on purpose but more or less feel like an oversight. Falling at basically the same speed as the crate to land on it and jump on it seems cool but the lack of polish makes it feel as if that wasn't the intended way to solve the puzzle.

Being able to hide in the crate and push it while in mid air is nice but it moves so fast and making more precise movements are more or less impossible.

I'm really only giving a 1 star cause the music is nice. I usually give 3-4 stars to games like these if at least look likes they tried but this game looks and plays like it was shit out in a day or 2. I know it's not under your control but games like these do not need to be taking up a spot on the front page.

I actually really love this game, I played on keyboard and did not very much enjoy it but playing with a Xbox controller feels heavenly. Keep up the good work, with these kind of games newgrounds will make a fucking come back I swear!
